Tsunami Day in the Galapagos

The tsunami from Japan did reach here 18 hours after the quake. The Port Captain ordered all boats to sea into deep water - not a bad idea since the harbour is shaped like a wide-V and points toward Japan.

We spent a very pleasant day at sea with little wind and felt nothing of the tsunami. Saw a couple of whales and some sharks. It did hit the town and went a block and half in (the town sloped steadily away from the water). No significant damage although some sea lions were apparently killed (bashed into sea walls, light standards?).

Leaving for Easter Island in a few hours - 2000 miles and very little wind for the first few days. We hope it will be no more than two weeks to get there but could be slower.
